The Culture Cruise sets sail again!

  El Paso’s Culture Cruise, a tradition from 1995 to 2004, returns to the high seas of Downtown El Paso 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 21.

  Organized by the city’s Museum and Cultural Affairs Department, the new, improved Culture Cruise will feature at least eight stops that evening, including the El Paso Museum of Art, the brand new El Paso Museum of History and El Paso Public Library. Private galleries include the Adair Margo Gallery and Hal Marcus Gallery. Also participating are Creative Kids’ Olo Gallery, the Art Junction and Union Fashion.

  Admission to all locations is free. Refreshments will be served and live music will be offered at many locations.

  Sun Metro will provide trolley transportation for 25 cents a ride, or free to anyone and their guests who park at Union Plaza Transit Terminal, 400 W. San Antonio (parking is $3).

A Kick-off and MCAD Open House reception is 4 to 6 p.m. at 2 Civic Center Plaza, first floor. See the new MCAD office space and sight of one of the nine Sols, with refreshments and a live classical string quartet.

• Adair Margo Gallery, 415 E. Yandell. Featuring the opening reception of “Tom Lea Centennial Retrospective “ of the late artist’s paintings and drawings.

-- El Paso Museum of Art, One Arts Festival Plaza. Featured exhibits are “Ho Baron: On the Upside Down,” “John Houser: Sculptor and Painter,” “A Digital Art Installation by Camille Utterback,” “Jose Cisneros: A Life in Art” and “Sister Cities Testing Boundaries: Art and Artists Along the US/Mexico Border.
The monthly 3rd Thursday’s event is 6 to 8 p.m. with this month’s theme “Aloha Luau.” Enjoy Hawaiian style beverages (cash bar), food, entertainment. Admission free for this month’s event in celebration of the Culture Cruise.

-- Union Fashion,1 Union Fashion Center (corner of Mesa and Texas). Opening reception of “Art=Fashion II Exhibit” featuring artwork from more than 20 local artists displayed alongside clothing from exclusive European fashion designers. Artists will be present to discuss their work, and fashion consultants will be available for individual showings of exclusive designer lines. Live music, wine and hors d’ouevres also featured.

-- MCAD’s Summer Solstice at Cleveland Square, 510 N. Santa Fe. The Sols created by local artists will be placed at Cleveland Square in front of the History Museum and Main Library. Hector Serrano's Shakespeare on the Run will perform vignettes from “Mid Summer’s Night Dream” and “mid-summer” fairy dances. Limited edition t-shirts for sale.

-- Creative Kids oLo Gallery, 504 San Francisco in the Union Plaza District, showing works of art in various media from youth in Creative kids programs such as youth battling cancer from Providence Memorial Hospital and youth living in public housing and youth with disabilities. There will also be a reception for the show “Artists Call,” refreshments an live music by Billy Townes.

-- Mars Hill, 1220 Texas Building B, with opening recption for “Artist Intervention.” The exhibit of local artists including Michael Carlos, Eddie Marquez and Frank Rosales. Other activities include Bela Fusion belly dancers, live music by Border Town Fools, and a fashion show featuring Sylvester of Estilow Junction.

-- El Paso Art Association/Art Junction Crossland Gallery, 500 W. Paisano. Opening receptiom for patriotic exhibition, “Three Cheers for the Red White and Blue,” as well as its gala and awards presentation. Includes arist open houses on the second floor, refreshments, live music by a string quartet, and visit by Uncle Sam.

-- Hal Marcus Gallery, 800 N. Mesa. Opening reception for “El Paso the Beautiful” exhibit showcasing El Paso scenes interpreted by more than 60 local artists. The first 100 cruisers will receive a free Hal Marcus greeting card, and all cruisers can dive into the discount pool to receive their discount of 10 to 20 percent off sales. Drawings held every hour for a small framed print. • El Paso Public Main Library on Cleveland Square. Events include “Pies de los Gitanos” (Feet of the Gypsies). Discover the traditional world of Spanish Flamenco dancing. Guided by a musicians and professional dancers in costume, participants will learn how to incorporate all traditional elements (feet, claps and voice)into their dance.

-- The El Paso Public Library’s Children’s Department events include “Art and Sol Story: Arts and crafts in the Children’s Department at 5 p.m., Chinese Program with Fan Chen dancing, stories and a craft at 6 p.m. and a Lemony Snicket Movie showing with popcorn and lemonade at 7 p.m.
Teen Town events include pin pong, computers, board games, and a pool table.
